How to look for signs in the body and catch that mini teaching moment. Start simple with modeling the word and you can build the language and sentences later.

  1. Waiting- waiting hands “Waiting”, “Let’s wait” “good waiting”, “your waiting”
  2. Turn-taking turns: “Turn”, “my turn”, “you turn”, “Mama’s turn”, “Sky’s turn”
  3. Share- sharing toys: “Share”, “wow nice sharing”, “you shared”
  4. Help- ask for help: “help”, “you need help” “say help”, “want help”
  5. Emotions-Happy and Sad: “happy”, “sad”, “feel sad”, “feel happy” “Jace is happy” “I’m sad” “You're sad because the bubble machine isn’t working” “I’m sad too”

~Uses short concise simple phrases

~Pair with sign language

~Repetition is Key

~Catch that mini teaching moment by looking at the body when they naturally are doing it

*Also a special note about using "waiting hands" language, the hands do not have to be down to your child's side, their hands can be positioned up and in front of them as long as they are not grabbing and hands remain calm and waiting.
